As we begin our unit on Canadian economy and connections to the world a sense of where we are talking about may be helpful. Here are some mapping sites to have some fun with and get a sense of the shrinking world we live in.

Canadian Industry Comparison

As part of our unit in human Geography we have discussed Industry and Social Justice and how that influences standard of living. Standard of living is very high in Canada much of which is a result of national industry and industrial efficiency. In class today we talked about the fact that although agriculture is only appox. 4 % of our GDP it still accounts for over 70% of the food that we consume. This leads to the question is Agriculture or any industry in Canada the same as in other countries or are there differentials that should be included in the comparison. Play the game http://www.3rdworldfarmer.com/ then discuss the following question: Why is success in the game dependent on the purchase of infrastructure and social services and how does this compare to Canada's past.

Parent Partners: the discussion is about economic prosperity and global equity. We are looking at the history of Canada's road to prosperity, through the lens of Human Geography, many of you and your ancestors have contributed greatly to that prosperity. Please include your personal contributions in  our discussion postings to enrich our understanding of the difficult but rewarding journey that our country has travelled.  thank you Ms. Newman

Students please click on the following link Environmental Action . After you have read the article please answer one of the following questions. Think about the article and be prepared to share your answer. Read the questions then read the article again. 

Such as:

 1. Do you think that this article is relevant to Canadians? Why?

2. How could you find out what the statistic is for Canada?

3. What could government do to encourage people to recycle? Should people that recycle be compensated? How?

 Then copy and paste your response as a post to this blog.

Next read the blogs of you classmates and post a response. Some examples might be I agree and why, or I disagree and why, or a question you may have. Remember that this is a public space and all posts must be polite and respectful. Everyone opinion is valuable and important. Other peoples perceptions can help us challenge what we think or sometimes clarify it.
